Citrus County is in the process of upgrading its two airports. The runway at Inverness Airport (X40) is currently being lengthened from 3762 to 5000 feet to accommodate small jets. The airport is getting all-new lighting, an automated weather system (AWOS), a new terminal and a maintenance hangar.
Runway 9/27 at Crystal River Airport (CGC) is also being extended to 5000 feet starting in 2012, and 25 T-hangars will be built.
